It is one of the concrete intervention actions aimed at “restoring” and re-naturalizing habitats. In general, these include soil interventions, the removal of invasive species, and the enhancement of floristic composition. Additionally, the development of guidelines for the management and improvement of habitats is planned.
ACTION C1, in detail, involves the restoration of the structure of target habitats in ZSCs IT1150001, IT2050005, IT1120010, IT2010010, IT2010013, and IT1120004 through:
- mowing and removal of cut material (Habitat 6210 and Habitat 4030);
- sod-cutting: scraping of the surface soil in 6×5 m plots scattered throughout the intervention areas (Habitat 2330 and Habitat 6210);
- top-soil inversion: burying the topsoil beneath a subsoil layer in 6×5 m plots scattered throughout the intervention areas (Habitat 4030);
- planting of shrub clusters as ecotones between Habitats 2330 and 6210 and the surrounding forests;
- removal of native woody species, retaining only the larger specimens under which ecotone species can find refuge.
