ANIMALs
Heathlands and arid grasslands are home to a variety of animal species, taht find here optimal conditions for survive:
- winter hibernation (such as Sympecma paedisca, a rare dragonfly);
- host plants on which to lay eggs (this is the case of Coenonympha oedippus, a butterfly also known by the common name of “moorland nymph”).
In habitat 2330 we can also find the “ladybug spider” (Eresus kollari), small in size but with a decidedly showy color.
These environments also host numerous species of pollinating insects; preserving arid habitats therefore helps to protect these important animals which in turn, with pollination, contribute to the conservation of the habitats themselves.
